Masturbation - Masturbation for Couples

Masturbation plays a very important part in a couple's sex life.  Some men and women can’t understand why their spouse still wants to masturbate since they have someone.  A major part of  individual masturbation  is that during masturbation the man or woman can fantasize about your partner doing this or that to them or maybe doing a threesome, group sex, bi or even gay sex.  They can live it out in a safe way.  After a couple has lived out a fantasy, they might actually try it in real life. Depending on the couple, it can be better than the fantasy or much worse since a fantasy you control and reality you can't.   But a couple fantasizing is a good way to test out one of their fantasies before trying it for real.

One thing masturbation does do is that it does play a very important role is that one of the partners has a higher sex drive than the other which is very common.  As a man ages,  a woman's sex drive will surpass his at some point.   Not that men no have the drive, they are still very interested in sex, but they have less physical ability to have an erection and to maintain it.  Even with the best ED drugs available it only works about 80% of the time after the man reaches age sixty.

Erectile Dysfunction Drugs

Researchers classified men who reported being “sometimes able” or “never able” to get and keep an erection as having erectile dysfunction. The results showed 28.4% of men over 20 suffered from erectile dysfunction.

The problem was much more common in older men, with 70% of men 60 or over reporting erectile problems, compared with 5% of men 20 and 31% at age 40.

According to some reports, over 50 million men in the U.S. may suffer from some measure of erectile dysfunction, a condition that can be detrimental to relationships and even mental health. Since the introduction of the first ED drug, Viagra, in 1999, ED drugs have grown to dominate the pharmaceutical market. By its manufacturer's own estimate, five hundred ED pills including Viagra pills are dispensed every minute in the U.S.   That is 724,000 pills per day.

For couples or individuals who do not want to seek the sexual pleasure of someone other than their partner this is a great way to still enjoy sex.

1980's -1990's Couples Sex Has Changed

Starting in the eighties couples started masturbating together more.  It went from, “not too often” or “never at all” on the survey “to doing it on regular bases”.  These are couples who are  masturbating at the same time, right next to each other.  They are not petting each other for the most part.

There is no hardcore evidence why.  But some of the top reason listed are.    “Sex toy”, vibratory came in first for women followed by  adult videos, dildo, watching their partner masturbate and other sexual toys.

For men they indicated watching their partner masturbate using adult videos or sex toys which included dildos.  Men reported a very high satisfaction rate watching their partner masturbate.

One assumption we are likely to reach is that couples like to watch their partner turned on by masturbation and then sharing their orgasms together.  They still have the closeness of their partner and are able to enjoy watching their partner. There is also a direct correlation to a couple masturbating together and their age.  Very few couples in their 20’s did it together, less than 5% said on regular basis. They were still masturbating, but not together.  By age 40, it was up to 40% and by age 60 it was the number one form of couples having sex together.  Unfortunately, the sexual studies conducted back in the 40’s and 50’s never addressed couples watching each other masturbating.

STORY TELLING SEX TALK – TRUTH OR DARE TALK

There were a lot of other words used for people describing talking about sexual subjects with their partners during sex. Married couples talked the most about sex during sex.  Couples having pillow talk based on a recently studies gave the following results.   23% of couples never talk during sex.  They also were the same group that reported that sex was less satisfying sexually than all the other groups.

The largest group was 34%. They indicated some foreplay talk with very little  descriptive talk during sex or sounds during sex. They indicated their sex life was poor to good.

The next group reported that they rated their sexual satisfaction as good to very good most of the time. With 27%, this group talked about sex, shared fantasies, past sexual experiences, telling each other sexual stories about themselves or their desires.

The final group which accounted for the smallest percentage was only 16% of the sample interviewed. They enjoyed pillow talk “just about all the time”,  well over 92% of the time sex talk was a major part of their sexual play.  What was surprising, they openly shared fantasies about every type of sexual experience. They talked about alternative sexual life styles, including swingers, adult bookstores, threesomes, group sex, bi sex MMF, MM, FFM, FF.  The list covered just about everything a person could do sexually.

89.9 % of this group indicated they have actually tried some of the fantasies more times. This included different sexual lifestyles.  82 % have more than 5 times actually experienced them and  74% more than 10 times. What was the real shocker was that well over 100 times,  43%  reported doing different forms of sexual lifestyles.   When the study was developed, not one of the researchers thought there would be more than four or five percent above 100 times. What was equally shocking was that their overall satisfaction during sex with their partner or with someone else was very good to excellent.

Also the couples had more pillow talk and averaged having sex more often in each of the age brackets.  Men are very satisfied over 97% where the first group only reported very satisfied at only 11%. The numbers were only a couple percentages different for women.

The higher the sexual satisfaction, the more often couples masturbated in all age groups.  It is a sign of familiarity and ease when partners are able to comfortably masturbate in front of each other. It is also a very important way both men and women can talk responsibility for their sexual needs without requiring their partner to satisfy them each and every time!

With men and women over 45, working women and men, joint masturbation is an option when they both want sex but too tired for anything energetic. Mutual masturbation, is something many have tried but they prefer to both stimulate each other, by taking and watching their partner.  Masturbating together can also simply be a way of having fun or changing a sexual routine. The fact is, mutual masturbation can be a very intense experience and it is in no way second best after intercourse or oral sex.  A good percentage of men indicated they enjoyed a good hand job as much as oral sex.  What it indicated that it is not how much sex that counts but the quality of it.   Masturbating sex can be especially liberating for men who experience performance anxiety, premature ejaculation or erectile difficulties.  This might be why many mature adults indulge in this quite often.

One area we didn’t cover is what does the man do with his ejaculate?   Let's face it, the sperm have to go some where!   For most, it just gets deposited wherever the penis ends up.  However, some men like shooting sperm onto his partner and many recipients enjoy  touching and licking it.  There are no real studies that tell us what most couples do.  So just do what feels good for you and your partner.  That is what sex is all about!
